My wife and I first began exploring Vancouver Island in the early nineties. After exploring from north to south and east to west we both fell in love with the Cambpell River area. Upon retirement we rented an RV site overlooking Georgia Straight where we spent twelve summers. I spent much of my time fishing for Pacific Salmon on the fly. I had heard about and tried a fly called Pink Handlebar. One day while walking the beach I found a fly with a little tuft of hair protruding out above the eye of the hook. I looked at it and I thought, that will change the action of the fly on a retrieve. That evening I tied up a few Pink Handlebars with a tuft of hair out over the eye. The results were phenomenal, it has become far and away the best fly in my box for Pinks and it has also accounted for many Coho.
