I love nothing more than fishing gomphus nymphs. They are always available to trout in most lakes and the fish love to hammer a big meal! The most effective pattern I have tried (and tied) is the deer hair gomphus but it is a pain to tie, especially when it only takes 2-3 trout to ruin a fly. The 2 flies in the picture are some attempts I have made to come up with an alternative to deer hair. Proportions still aren't whaere I want them but I thought I would share anyway. Any comments and tips are welcome.
