The SPUN DEER hair Gomphus dragon is one of my go to searching patterns. I have caught fish in gin clear lakes to dark tea stained ponds with this killer pattern. Anyone else in love with this fly? My favourite is natural darkish mule deer hair for the body and head, with hen ringnecked pheasant for the legs.

Yeah, it's a very effective pattern. I like the dark natural most of the time, but have also found a dark olive to work at times when the natural isn't producing? Gomphus

Also a staple for me on any lake. I'm from the school of quick stripping spun deer patterns along the bottom with my S5-S7, preferably along drop-offs. Next best is a slightly weighted Mink pattern slow stripped from vegetated shorelines through the shallows in failing light. Either way, 10# tippet.
