Good Scotch, bad scotch?

Is there such a thing?

Picked up a new bottle of scotch the other night for the holidays and thought I would on d give it a shot. I like to drink scotch but to be honest I don’t know much about. Is there a science to picking a bottle of scotch and what are you’re guys favourites?

This is the one I bought, Aberlour Speyside Single Malt.

Aberfeldy and Dahlwinnie are pretty much it for me.
I stick with what I like and don't muck around. Nice simple scotches.

I just stick with our local whiskey. Jameson Irish Whiskey.. Hard to beat it.

I like Scapa right now and for the holidays I picked up a bottle of Port Charlotte which is a very peaty Islay which is nice in its own way.
