This fly couldn't stay in the caddis box only.

The Freddie is stellar on the rivers as well.

So this goes back to when I was guiding on Rainbow Alley on the Babine for Babine-Norlakes Lodge.
The fly is tied a wee bit longer, and is dynamite for stones on the upper river.
It worked so well, guests named it after me and it stuck. 30 years now I suppose.
Check out the book.

Babine Freddie.
Hook- TMC 5263 #8 - #6
Tail - Stacked elk.
Body - Seal fur. 3 parts dark olive, 1 part radiant gray, 1 part Flo. Blue.
Try fiery brown abdomen and a yellow or orange thorax for stones.
Wing - Stacked elk, 3 parts. Ist just short of tail. Each one progressively shorter by about 10%.
Hackle- Furnace or natural brown.
Head - Butts of last wing.

I use good chunks of elk. Tie in very tight at butts, and wrap back until wing/tail is how you like it. Come back 2-3 turns and crank it down. This way all the flaring occurs between the wraps.
I also use Mucilin for dubbing wax on this morsel.
