ggp's thread "It's not all about the fishing " got me thinking about all that my non-fishing friends don't get. We all know that "fishing" is about so much more than just hooking fish. The places it takes us, the people we meet that we otherwise would never encounter, the bonds we form with the animate and the inanimate, these are all as important to us as the jewels of the water we occasionally have the luck to encounter. In my more than 7 decades on this planet, I have had the good fortune to make many friends but those with whom I have spent time fishing, even if it has been only one trip, or one day, I look on as more than just friends. They share a deeper connection with me, one that is elemental to my being. It is a realization of the vast scope of nature and our small part in it. Pictures and words struggle to convey this but the continual attempt to do so gives meaning to life.
